April 30 - May 11, 2020
You are invited to join us as we celebrate Beltane. Beltane is the midpoint between spring equinox and summer solstice. It marks the seasonal time of flowering in the life of the plant, a necessary activity if the plant is to produce fruit. Flowering means producing dazzling color, beauty and fragrance, all necessary for attracting pollinating insects who carry on the fertility assuring that life will go on. This cross-quarter passage with roots in the ancient Gaelic tradition celebrates the extravagance of Earth’s gifts of nourishment and beauty. Much of the fertility is critically dependent on the pollinators – especially wild bees, butterflies and honeybees. We are being warned that their numbers are in decline, due mostly to the chemical toxicity of our industrial methods of farming. This special seasonal passage reminds us of our need to reverence the miracle of life, honor its fragility, and curb our own patterns of entitlement.
We will open the portal of Beltane at 2PM on April 30 and close it at 2:00 PM on May 11. If you wish to attend either the opening or closing here please RSVP by calling (908) 362-6735.
During the days and nights surrounding Beltane everyone is encouraged to mark this passage on your own or to gather with others where you live and celebrate the coming of the flowers..
